Another observation on Australian plants is that they seem to grow in gargantuan proportion. The little potted ficus that struggles to grow in the dim corners of Northwest living rooms is indeed the same plant that Erik is standing in front of in the picture. When early European settlers arrived in Queensland, such trees were common. This ficus was one of the few that was spared from the sawmill and is in the middle of the Central Business District, what Brisbaners call the downtown area.
