A Quiet Weekend

Since the main focus of this past weekend was to find me (Kathryn) a road bike, we stayed in Brisbane. Mark was off mountain biking before 7:00 am while it was still cool. Then, I took my turn and went to the gym for an hour since by 9:30 it was already too warm to just go for a jog. We have noticed that even on the weekends most people tend to be out walking/jogging/biking between 6-8 am or 5-7 pm and that in the middle of the day the parks are often deserted.

We spent some time doing research, online and in the paper, and then visiting bike shops in the early afternoon (they close early, 3 or 4 pm). Although we have yet to purchase a bike, we at least have an idea of frame size and models that seem to fit my rather sort torso.

Appropriately, there was bike racing (both men’s and women’s) on TV, so we watched that for a while. Thus inspired, once it cooled off enough, we took Erik out for some practice runs on his bike with Mark and I taking turns running alongside him. By the end he was peddling a bit on his own, and we were out of breath and sweating profusely! With a few more practice sessions, he should be riding solo. Sometimes I wonder if we shouldn’t have bought a slightly smaller bike for him to learn on, but then again this one will fit him for several years.
