It's been a long time since my last post, and we are starting to feel settled in our new lives back in the U.S. We hosted a big family Christmas eve in our new house with lunch for 18 people and a fun gift exchange. Then on Christmas day we had a roast beef dinner for 13, and the day after went up to Mark parents' home for more holiday festivities. Needless to say, after not being home for Christmas for several years, we made up for lots of lost time with family.
We had a few days to recover before we headed down to White Pass for three days of skiing. Erik is making fabulous progress and is now comfortable on blue square (intermediate) runs. It's great to have an activity that we can all enjoy together outdoors. I remember going to White Pass as a kid and it was fun to go back with my own family. In some ways it hasn't changed much. The condos and lodge are still the only buildings at the base. However, they have recently expanded and added two more high speed chair lifts on the back side that add a huge amount of intermediate terrain as well as a mid-mountain lodge. Just behind the condos, there is also a network of Nordic (cross country) ski trails that I tried out the day we left. I always enjoy the contrast of cross country skiing; it's so quiet and peaceful compared with excitement of downhill skiing.
