Well, what did we expect going to the rain forest at Binna Burra? A bit of rain, but not constant drizzle and mist that saturates everything. It was almost like being on the Washington Coast! We were literally in the clouds on our trip last weekend, which was a bit disappointing since we had hoped to get in a lot of "bush walking" and take in some of the beautiful views of the Boarder Range, but we had to be satisfied with a few short jaunts between trips from the lodge to our "safari tent".

The safari tent was not too bad, a bit darker and moldier than I had envisioned, but much better than our little backpacking tent would have been. Just to be up out of the mud and leech zone (3 leech encounters for the weekend) I suppose was worth the $75 AUD a night.

Maybe we are just getting soft, but, I think a room at the lodge (with an attached bathroom) would have been the best bet at least with the wet weather we experienced. Nonetheless we managed to stay reasonably dry and keep Erik somewhat entertained. One night we had dinner at the lodge and discovered the observation room (not that we saw anything but mist) which had a fireplace and some tables and sofas, and was a nice change from our tent. Later on the second day we took our chances on a short break in the rain and walked on the Caves Circuit and were able to enjoy some of the nature we had come for. After that, however, we were ready to head home and checked out early opting to spend the night in the comfort of our own home. So much for roughing it!
