Aloha!

Erik and I are in Kauai for two weeks, escaping the heat of Brisbane and visiting my parents, who have a timeshare condo here. For those of you in the Pacific Northwest, wanting to escape the heat may seem a bit crazy, but in Brisbane we live in the western (think inland) suburbs, which tend to be a bit hotter and are over an hour's drive from the coast, not that we have a car anyway. All of Mark's carpool mates have moved back to the US, so Erik and I are limited to where we can go on foot, bike or via public transport. The train to the city is actually quite good, but it's a two hour trip one way with transfers to get to the nearest beach on the Gold Coast.

Therefore, when the opportunity arose to go to Hawaii, have Erik spend time with his grandparents, escape the heat, and be by the beach everyday, I didn't hesitate. It was still a ten hour flight, but we weren't doing much and and Erik enjoys flying. We've done the trip to Seattle so many times that traveling to Hawaii was pretty easy.

So far we've had one glorious sunny day and one overcast day and spent time at beach on the former and hiking the Napali Coast on the latter . Today we are going on a helicopter tour and then plan to check out the beaches on the south Pu'poi coast.
