While all of you in the Northern Hemisphere are enjoying the fall color, here in Brisbane the summer storm season has started up with a bang, and a loud one at that. For the past two nights, we have been treated to monsoon like rain and amazing lightning shows. According to the paper, there were over 10,000 lightning strikes in last night's storm and thousands of people lost power.
We were lucky enough to survive with just a 30 second blackout after an especially close strike. While somewhat inconvenient to those caught outdoors, the storms here are amazing to watch and are a wonderful source of entertainment to Erik, who enjoys counting the seconds between the flash of lightning and the crash of the thunder. In all the excitement, I didn't think to take any pictures, so these are from The Courier Mail.
The Story Bridge and the Central Business District (CBD)Hopefully, such storms mean we are back to the normal subtropical summer weather pattern with lots of percipitation to fill up the dams and end water restrictions.
