On the Easter Monday holiday, (Easter is a four day weekend in Australia) we took my parents up to the Glass House Mountains north of Brisbane and then to Bribie Island, our favorite day-trip beach. The Glass House Mountains are a group of 16 volcanic plugs that rise sharply out of the lush coastal forest and pineapple farms. Supposedly Captain Cook named them on his voyage of discovery because they reminded him of the glass factories he had seen as a boy growing up in Scotland. The one we climbed was moderately difficult with several short steep sections but still basically a hike. Erik proved to be quite the mountain climber and flew up the trail. Unfortunately, my mom didn’t do as well and turned back about half way when going up started requiring handholds. It all worked out in the end, however, and I scrambled up to the top, gave Erik and Mark the update and a quick high five, then ran down and met my mom on the way back down well before reaching the trailhead.
As usual, the beach at Bribie was great. We really are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world.

My travel brochure from the Whitsundays arrived today! We are saving and dreaming! I don't know if we can squeeze in the Glass House mountains, but I am totally intrigued by them. We miss you guys!
